From her first appearance on ethnic community radio at the tender age of five, to her selection as a finalist in a Channel 7/Pacific Magazines competition at the age of 20, and her appearance on national TV and radio, Sarah has always felt destined for a career in the media. In addition to her freelance journalism, Sarah’s resume features stints in editing, copywriting, advertising, PR, academia and more.

Journalism & Writing:

From fashion to social commentary, how-to’s to political pieces, profiles to reviews, Sarah’s freelance journalism portfolio is diverse and all-encompassing. Editing:

Sarah started out with work as a freelance editor on a small street-press publication, commissioning articles, organising product shoots and calling in product. Together with Olivia Hambrett, she was an establishing co-publisher of the massively successful Trespass Magazine, an online zine for Gen Y creatives which clocks in excess of 300,000 global page views per month under Hambrett and current editor Lin Tan. She now focuses her energies on blogging about breaking into the writing industry here on Wordsmith Lane.

Academic Work:

Sarah holds a Masters degree from Sydney University, and is currently preparing for a doctoral degree on the glamorisation of gang culture among Sydney’s Middle-Eastern community, as represented in the press and popular culture. Coupled with her professional experience, Sarah’s strong academic background in the field of media and communications studies has seen her assist in the assessment process at Sydney University’s Media Department. Sarah has also tutored a number of high school students in her spare time.

Advertising, PR & Media Consulting:

Sarah has worked on the advertising teams of two major magazines, under News Limited and Fairfax Media respectively. Through Niche Creative Media, she has also serviced a number of smaller organisations with advice/consulting on media, Public Relations, and advertising issues and processes.
